Drawing 

All the essentials in a variety of media, graphite, charcoal, inks, colour pastels 

 

Tuesday Drawing (choose morning or afternoon classes.)

Tuesdays are mixed ability groups ideal for beginners and improvers,  tuition covers a range of media and establishes sound principles of classic and contemporary technique

Tuesday 5th November- Tuesday 17th December 7 weeks £91 either 10am-12pm or 2pm-4pm

Tuesday January 7th - Tuesday February 11th  2020  6 weeks £84 either 10am-12pm or 2pm-4pm

Tuesday February 25th - Tuesday March 29th 2020  6 weeks £84 either 10am-12pm or 2pm-4pm

Saturday Morning Drawing Group 10.30am-12.30pm ideal for any age from 13 upwards (mostly includes adults) this is the only pay as you go course we offer, at £15 per 2 hour class, but there is a minimum attendance of three weeks, and we recommend you attend most weeks to gain maximum benefit.

Figure (Life) Drawing

Wednesdays March 18th,  March 25th  and April 1st,  2020. 10am-12pm.

 Did you know that drawing the human form is possibly the fastest way to make your work more accurate!  Course cost includes drawing materials and professional model fee: £90 for three sessions. Watercolours 

with Kate Lowry Weds 10am-12pm for beginners to intermediate

Such a popular medium, learn to create vibrant paintings full of light with Kate Lowry, artist and former head conservator at the National Museum and Gallery Cardiff. Materials are not included, we can advise on what you will need and keep stocks in the Workshop for students at reasonable prices.

Textile Art 

 With Karen O'Shea. This course allows you to experiment with fabrics and a mix of media to create inspired art and textile pieces. Through deconstruction, reconstruction, stitch, painting, drawing, dyeing, and embroidery you will challenge yourself to explore the world of Textile Art.

Oil Painting

with Genevieve Loxton Friday morning 9.30am-12.00pm or afternoon 2pm-4.30pm

Learn all about this versatile medium, the favourite of professional painters.  This course takes you through a structured approach to handling materials, becoming expressive with paint  and understanding colour theory. Includes relevant art history and appreciation.

Experimental Acrylics

With Petra Couper A creative exploration of this versatile paint medium incorporating contemporary techniques. Suitable for beginners and the more experienced.  10am-12.30pm every Monday during term time. And New for January 2020: Tuesday evening classes 6.30pm-8.30pm.

Printmaking: Collagraph, Linocuts, Drypoint and Monoprint

with  Artist tutor Jackie Shackson. Create beautiful images using artists quality materials, and come away with a series of handmade prints of your own design. £45 including materials and use of the press.  Selected weekends,  see dates below. Three hour workshops for beginners and improvers. 

Collagraph printmaking is a versatile, sensitive art form where you can transform your designs into beautiful handmade prints, built from an etched plate with collage additions to create incredible texture and tone.

Linocuts is the modern form of woodblock engraving, but forget that tough old lino from your schooldays! Try carving into artist's quality lino which is smooth and easy, and create powerful images with high contrast.

Monoprinting. the most painterly method among printmaking techniques, essentially a printed painting, and no two are alike. A sponaneous form of printmaking combining drawing and painting media.

Drypoint  learn the engravers skills in this wonderful form of etching to produce accurate detail and expressive marks.

For Children

Junior Art Academy is an hour of inspiring and fun fine art tuition with our team of qualified art teachers. Choose either Mondays 4-5pm, Thursdays 4-5pm or Saturdays 9am-10am. Reserve your places now for Academy classes with tutors Petra Couper and Imogen Lee. Learn exciting techiques, drawing, painting, 3D and Art History, and explore a whole range of media. Develop sketchbook skills. Your child can attend a trial session for just £11.

Art for the Holidays  for ages 5-7 and 7-13
 
During Half terms and holidays the Art Workshop runs Creative Kids sessions for children between the ages of 7 and 13. These are open to all daily and are fun well structured workshops where children learn through drawing games and creativity exercises as well as completing  finished pieces in a range of media. They  are able to experiment with materials and produce a portfolio of work to take home with the help of our team of tutors.  Fees £18 including all materials.

Please note: This year the Rhiwbina Christmas Lantern Parade will not be taking place. A decision has been made to have a pause this year by the village's One Rhiwbina Committee, to allow a year for reorganising the structure of the Village's two annual Festivals and other activities.  If you need more information on the decision to pause the Parade this year please contact Rhiwbina Events Committee on Facebook, which is chaired by Eleanor Sanders. The Rhiwbina Christmas Festival is still going ahead on Saturday November 30th.
